ANNA-SOFIA KIRSCH SCENOGRAPHY


VITA
Anna-Sofia Kirsch studied scenography in Dortmund and then worked as a set design assistant at the National Theatre Mannheim. Since 2020, she has worked as a freelance set designer for various opera houses across Europe.
In regular collaboration with director Calixto Bieito, productions such as Exterminating Angel at the Opéra Bastille Paris, Eliogabalo at the Zurich Opera House, Suor Angelica/Il Prigioniero at the Rome Opera House, and Idomeneo at the Prague State Opera and La Monnaie Brussels were created.
She also realised further projects with Krystian Lada at the National Theatre Mannheim, with Victoria Stevens at the State Theatre Hannover and State Theatre Mainz, and with R.B. Schlather at the Frankfurt Opera.
In addition to her work in opera, Anna-Sofia Kirsch realises scenographic projects in public spaces. Together with the event agency m:con, she designed the temporary church pavilion at the BUGA23 in Mannheim, the foyer of the Nationaltheater Mannheim’s interim venue OPAL, and currently the festival center of the Mannheimer Sommer at OPAL.
In 2022, she and Victoria Stevens were awarded second place in the European Opera Direction Prize. In 2024, she was nominated for the International Opera Award in the category "Designer of the Year".
